Three tips for in-home newborn sessions

Tip #1

To prepare your baby for photos, I would recommend starting with a fresh diaper, a tight swaddle, and feeding him or her right before the session. When they're this little and sleepy, outfit changes can disturb their peace. I like to keep it simple with just swaddle blankets for this session!

Tip #2

Leading up to our shoot, pay attention to what rooms in your house get the best lighting and what time of day, and then let's plan our session around that timing. I normally use the nursery and one other room for relaxed family photos like a living room or bedroom. I know those first couple weeks can feel like you're in survival mode, so know that your whole house does not have to be tidy and ready to photograph, 1-2 well-lit rooms will do!

Tip #3

Have a neutral-colored, loose-fitting top or dress for photos, and a back-up just in case. It might be helpful to ask a family member to come over that morning to help with Baby or your home while you take time for yourself to get ready. I remember it felt so nice to do my hair and makeup for the first time in weeks.

What would help you feel at peace during photos? Some relaxing music, a candle, a mimosa (ha! no judgment here) - let's make it fun! Starting a family is a huge milestone, and photos help you commemorate and celebrate it.
