Baker & Elly Darlington
I knew from my first call with Elly that I was in for a treat in working with these two. They have the purest joy and love for each other, it’s contagious. Combine that with some of my favorite planners. Big Events, at one of my favorite venues, Scarritt Bennett, it was an incredible day. See below for some highlights from their wedding as well as a Q & A with Elly.
Q. For the bride -- what do you admire most about your husband?
A. There are so many things I admire about Baker that it is almost impossible to just pick one! Something that has always stood out to me is his humility. He is the most talented person I know, but he has never lets his talent or success compromise his character.
Q. For the groom - what do you admire most about your wife?
A. I admire Elly’s skill in encouraging those around her and having the patience with me and others to actually understand their needs. She is honest and real with everyone she meets and that is why she is so easy to love. Ask any friend of hers, she’s the one they come to for encouragement because they know she will be honest and caring.
Q. Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
A. We were both blown away by all the details that went into making our wedding so perfect- the flowers, invitations, cake, band... we could go on forever! We both loved the timeless beauty of the church where we had our ceremony. Getting married in a church was important to us, and Scarritt Bennett gave us the tradition we wanted while also giving so much beautiful detail throughout the chapel and grounds.
Q. Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line?
A. Our vows were written by Baker's pastor from the church he grew up going to in Memphis. We both love the opening line that says "I receive you as a gift from God." It is the perfect reminder that our marriage is a gift from God and that we should thank Him daily for that gift.
Q. What made you choose your ceremony or reception venues? Did they have any special significance to you?
A. We knew we wanted to get married in Nashville since it is where I was raised and it was a good central location for both of our families and friends. In typical 2020 fashion, both our ceremony and reception venues were not the original venues we had chosen for our wedding! Our amazing wedding planners worked so hard to find new venues that would safely accommodate our guests without compromising our vision for our wedding. Despite the date and venue changes we faced the few months leading up to our wedding, we could not begin to imagine two better venues than Scarritt Bennett and The Harpeth Hotel. They were a dream, and we are forever thankful for how it all worked out!
Q. What is your most memorable moment from the wedding day?
A. One of our most memorable moments from our wedding day was sitting down for dinner at our reception. It was the first moment where we got to really pause and look around and see all of our guests and all of the amazing details. We felt so blessed to be surrounded by so many of our family and friends in our first hours of being husband and wife!
Q. What's next for you as a couple?
A. Right now we are just enjoying being newlyweds and getting to spend each day together. We are looking forward to Baker graduating from dental school and seeing where God takes us after that. Maybe we'll get a dog in the meantime!
Q. Is there anything else you'd like to share about your wedding?
A. We truly cannot thank the team at Big Events enough for everything they did for us during our engagement season. Despite all that 2020 brought to the wedding industry, they worked tirelessly to give us the wedding of our dreams. Not only are they incredibly talented and professional, but they are like family after all they did for us.
Q. What was it like being in front of my camera?
A. Being in front of Rachel's camera was so effortless because of the way Rachel directed and encouraged us the whole day. From the photos of Baker and I to the photos of our guests on the dance floor, Rachel captured every moment perfectly!
